Well, Turgor is tension. A critical tension when the breakthrough is imminent.

Outside the game, there's also such thing as Turgor pressure in cell biology which also can provide some insight. It's the pressure created in the cells of a plant when they are full of water and can't let any more water in.

Maybe publishers decided (as often happens with localisation), that "Turgor" is too difficult a word, and decided to 'explain' it.
