There's not a lot I can say that has not been said, but I'll just describe my experience.

The way I learned about this game, was from surfing around the internet, and I see this thread on some random obscure forum appropriately named "Pathologic" the thread itself, had no replies so normally I'd ignore it completely but, for whatever reason I did click it.

The guy was copying from a walkthrough and in this walkthrough the person whom had wrote it was explaining his own experience, and how he had started the game with a friend, the person (who wrote the walkthrough) explained that his friend started as the Haruspicus, and he started as the Bachelor.

In the beginning he explains some of the mechanics of the game, and then before going into the game's story, he first writes a long-winded description of how the game made him feel, and how a couple days into the story him and his friend started to fight, because they both felt they were doing the right thing and anything else was wrong.

I stopped reading right there, and got the game, I did not play it the first couple of days I got it, and just read about the game without spoiling anything for myself, and sort of hyped it by myself, to myself. (inadvertently  )

So onto the real stuff, after learning all the mechanics through tiny little starts (sort of). I started again as the Bachelor, and I got sucked into the character, and the atmosphere engrossed me, the bad translations actually helped the experience a little bit honestly, it made me feel like even more of an outsider to the town, as you have to decipher what they're saying it added more to the mystery.

Now without going on even more than I have to, it's been awhile since a game has actually made me feel any sort of emotion or put me in a frame of mind. Pathologic gives me a really strange discomforting, almost disturbing feeling and I love it for that.

Yes, I fully agree with you. It's the special feeling and the atmosphere that make you love the game. Thank you for your good words. Believe me, most inhabitants of these forums feel the same as you do.

As for the poor translation (I didn't play the English version, only the Russian one, but I heard about this problem), I hope it won't stop you and you'll play for all the three characters. The sad thing is, Pathologic has many...well...messages for the player, and the right choice of words is a necessary thing to get them. But the forums are helpful, otherwise what are they for? So good luck!
