Hi All,

I bought this game about a week ago off direct 2 drive. I've put about 8-9 hours into it and it has worked just fine with no major glitches. However, I booted it up yesterday only to have it crash when I pressed load game. The weird thing is that I can start new games, but if I try to save or load while in the game it crashes to desktop. I opened the folder called saves in the game file and it said, this file is empty. Anyway this is extremely annoying, I'd been enjoying the game immensely but now I can't really play it.

Now I'm playing the game on windows vista on a laptop with multicore and onboard audio card. I understand that the game doesn't like this; however, the thing is that it worked fine for a while before this happened. Also since I can still start new games and play normally I feel like the problem likely isn't related to graphics or sounds stuff. After this happened I installed OPENal or whatever, and tried setting affinity via task manager to have the game run on only one core. I also tried running it in windows 2000 compatability mode. None of this fixed the problem. Anyway I'd really appreciate some help, I'd post dxdiag and engine logs if someone tells me how to do that, I'm not very knowledgable about computers. Thanks.

To post your log, please locate your game's installation folder. Then find engine.log in \bin\Final\. Crash the game by loading the savegame which causes it, and then open the file. You will most likely find some error near the end of the file. Copy some part of this log where the error is, and post it here.

My assumption is that your savegame is corrupted for whatever reason, and is not going to work, so you will have to start again from the previous savegame.

So I found an engine.dll in that folder but when I open it up in Notepad I just get a bunch of random characters. Also the game crashes when I press the "load game" button in the main menu, or the "save game" button in the game, so its not as though I'm choosing a particular save and then trying to load that. Couldn't find an engine.log though unless thats the same thing. Thanks for responding though, any idea what i need to do to find engine.log, I did a search everywhere as well from the start menu and still got no results.

So I managed to solve my own problem. I think Halfgild Wynac was correct when he said it was a corrupted save game. Unfortunately, the game would crash before before I could get to the menu where I choosed which game to load, so I couldn't load a new game. However, I was able to start new games and quicksave within those, so I did and eventually overwrote the corrupted quicksave. Anyway, I figured I might not be the last person to have this problem so I thought I'd post this solution in case anyone else is googling this stuff. Thanks for the help/
