Lewis, just out of curiosity could you please post your specs?

Also, the devs might feel differently, but I wouldn't be too apologetic about the difficulty and save game issue *puts up flame shield*. If you look in the German release thread, several people had to start over because they were stuck with no way out. It seems to be design choice that carried over from Pathologic, surviving in a harsh environment, but that doesn't mean some people won't be frustrated. Overall I liked your review, and even though I'm still dying to play the game I think most of your critiques were valid. Some of your complaints though I think would have been alleviated if you finished the game, but I understand that playing games is a job for you and not a leisurely activity like it is for the rest of us, so you can run out of time.

Welcome to our little corner of the world :D

You should be like me, I made 414 Pathologic saves just for the bachelor scenario ^_^.

Perhaps you opinion of the game could changed a bit by the final parts, if it is anything like the Russian version, those are the worse parts, seeing the cycles sip way while to try to gather enough colour for the breakthrough while running away from brother as so not to spend your precious colour.

I think most of us found it a favourable review, but being rabid IPL fan-boys as we are (at least I am) we will always find something to nitpick short of a 9/10 or 10/10. I guess in the end, more than fan-boy is the desire to see developers that put so much love into their work, so much love and soul into one piece of software, to break the boundaries of definitions that standardize today's gaming industry, I think that it is for those reasons above all we all secretly wish to see IPL get the recognition it deserves outside our little private world.

In end I think it was a good review, and we can only hope the 3rd IPL project gets a 10/10 :D

Welcome to the forums, Lewis!

At first, I must note that your review is very good and you've come to an understanding of things to happen, so I am by no means criticizing, that you haven't finished the game - just noting, that there's a bit more to the game. I'm not sure, whether you've fought with any of the Brothers yet - in average, you'll have to face 4-6 brothers in boss-battles. They're quite a relief from the game's usual tediousness (I admit, there is some repetiveness to it, but it's a must for the slow pace to work).

And I guess, best of luck to you too! :)
Thanks for spreading the word!
And, hopefully, one day, we'll actually answer your interview questions. :) Sorry about that!

Edit: I have a bad feeling about the review copy - didn't you have the autosave feature working? It should have created a new save each cycle.

That reminds me: I wonder what RPS will have in store for The Void?

Me too. If it wasn't for RPS I'd never have played Pathologic, or known about Ice-Pick Lodge. That place surely has built up some fans in the west. 8)

A good review, but I got a bit lost... seems English isn't the primary language, because to be honest I couldn't see from where the 78% came from, from the written text.

Still, gratz :)

I'm a bit disappointed, that Void only got 6 for sound and music — it's usually one of the strongest points of the game.

Good point.

Only the 9 for originality was well deserved. The other deserved higher.

just another uninformative overly verbose piece of graphomania. Crap, the article has blown my brains out. Such stuff can develop an irritation towards a language pretty well.

The way you write reveiws makes me love English more.

Thanks very much! :) I don't find it easy though, otherwise I'd write more.

Strange, my review copy autosaves each cycle.

Yep, that's what it's supposed to do, but there was an inbetween version that for some reason didn't. :) Thus I'm wondering. )

 Thanks! I love Quintin, and not just because he has a Pathologic tattoo  His writing is exquisite. Example: This piece makes me desperately want a PS3. Looking forward to his review of The Void, obviously.

I certainly don't have photos! That would just be creepy and weird. Better to ask him, perhaps

Cool article, although he mentions the fact that, like Pathologic, you can get into no-win situations that mean you have to reload a save from hours back. Did this actually happen to anyone when they played Pathologic? Maybe I'm just awesome :P, or have become a cautious player after playing enough toughies like SS2, but I never had to do this. I made saves at the start of each day etc but I never had to revert to them.

Perhaps The Void will be the first to make me do this! Not counting that time when I saved my game whilst dead in Crusader: No Remorse!

It is quite easy in The Void to find yourself without colour while a Brother wants to repaint your face of the colour pain. :D

My Pathologic tattoo is of the cattle brand the Haruspicus finds in his inheritance. It's black and pretty big, so I like to think of it as if Ice-Pick branded me. And no, you're not getting a picture!

I'm fairly sure I won't be alone in this one. Both are games about managing resources while trying to complete objectives against time limits, and both are games where you have to discover most of the nuances of the world yourself. During those first six or so hours of play where you're stumbling about like a womb-wet fawn you're likely to waste a lot of what's given to you, making completing objectives tricky. So yeah, I've reloaded a few saves in my time.

Something I didn't mention in the article is when you do reload a save from a while back, you'll always regain your progress in half or a quarter of the time simply because you know how the world works better, and I guess, you know what's coming. So it's not something that gets on my nerves.
