I got like 30 seconds out of The Void before the mouse camera made me stop. I'm usually not too sensitive, I've played many first person games. But The Void I will not be able to play. Pity. I was looking forward to it.

Um.. It seems that I have already heard somewhere about nausea one user experienced. I do not know how it is possible, but I guess this headbobbing may easily be removed.
I will probably upload a new player script tomorrow.

Upd: this was much easier than I expected. Check your PM for the fix.

Thank you. I will try it.

Motion sickness from games is still a mysterious thing. But it is much more common than (hardcore) gamers may suspect. I believe it is caused mostly by a discrepancy between the camera motion on screen and how the player expects the camera to move (based on their input).

In The Void, I think the main reason for it, is the all too direct binding of the camera rotation with the mouse movement. A little bit of lag would problem help a lot. I've also found that rotating the camera around a point in front of itself, rather than around its own axis, helps as well. And so does rotating around one axis at a time.

Halfgild, can you upload the script here? I expect other people will find it helpful, too.

OK, here it is: http://www.tension-game.com/files/The-V ... bbing).zip
You will find instructions inside. Basically, I fixed headbobing animation at its first frame, and slightly increased FOV.

JohnyZuper, it would be great to hear your opinions on this, if possible

mostly its caused by a mixture of mouse lag, low fps, motion blur and headbobbing. the first 2 are the main factors, although headbobbing makes low fps much worse imho.
depending on game u can do some things.

mouse lag: disable vsync, reduce mouse sampling (mouse smoothing), reduce frames to render ahead (Can cause trouble like spikes or even crashes though)
low fps: reduce resolution/eye candy
motion blur: disable
headbobbing: disable

We only have primitive motion blur in "cutscenes" (and also when player is hit). On the other hand, there is mouse smoothing in the game, and its strength may be changed by player in Options.
Headbobbing cannot be disabled by player, and this is the reason I have uploaded a modified version of script controlling player's view amongst other things. Anyway, I would advise against it to anyone who does not have motion sickness of our headbobbing. This animation certainly adds to dream-like experience (if you feel well while playing with this headbobbing, of course).

Really? I haven't found this. Could you post a screenshot? Or tell me how to find this option?

Turning off the head bobbing did help a little. But it's the rotation of the camera that makes me sick. It's to fast, too abrupt.

Also, would it be possible to use the cursor keys instead of ASWD? I find that more comfortable.
And/or does The Void support joystick control somehow?

Look at the Controls to find this setting (big O for Options in the main menu). Right side of the bar means higher amount, left sided sets low amount.
There are only few controls that cannot be adjusted. AFAIR, 'tilde' for developer's console may not be changed. You may assign your keys for the rest of the controls (as in almost all other games).

If camera's rotation seems ABRUPT, then you should probably increase smoothing rather than turn it off. I don't find it convenient, though, but it certainly helps to make captured gameplay videos look smoother :). Anyway, you can change these settings anytime you want while playing the game, so I doubt it will take long to find those that suit you best.
