Hello, this is my first post here, but I've been following this forum for quite some time now.

Now, I've played through the game and loved it, but there was always this little disturbing issue: in the "sister's information page" Aya's name appears to me as "?ya".
It's really no big deal, but I'd love to know what's going on with that.

Thanks in advance.

PS: If anyone can help me take a SS I'd be happy to post it back, I just couldn't find a way yet.

I've been wondering about this for awhile too. Was wondering if it was a weird typo or intentional.

I think it's a Cyrillic letter 'A' that slipped through the cracks during translation. It looks the same as a Roman 'A' but has a different ASCII code, so it ends up being an unknown character in the game's font. It is an unfortunate mistake, I know :|

My money was actually on something along the same lines.
Any known way around it? Just find/replace that character in some files could do it? or are we talking source code?

Thanks in advance.

The LxR (or someone else at IPL) would have to re-compile the localization files.

No. Don't.
I tend to delay stuff when I'm annoyed, rather than do. :)

It's not an issue, anyway, though I was wondering the same. Struck me as quite mysterious. =p

Yell if I can be of any assistance.

Was it in a plain text file or did you have to unpack this?

Many thanks, anyway!

Hmmm.... this is interesting, it looks like there are far more strings to fiddle around with :)

Don't read too much or you'll spoil things for yourself! (if you haven't finished the game, that is)

On a similar topic, I noticed that a '?' shows up anytime someone says the word 'Naïve'. That is, it always appears as 'na?ve'. I would assume this is due to the same sort of issue.

I'm sorry if this sounds stupid but... do you mean "in game"? or "in forum"?

Well I meant in the game, of course. I first noticed it when Echo first showed up and chased me down. She said somebody was "na?ve" instead of "naive" or "naïve." Or rather, that's what appeared in the subtitles. Obviously the voice actress didn't pronounce it with a question mark. :) And then it cropped up in someone else's subtitles too, Ire, I think. I'm guessing it's a similar issue with ASCII codes or something.

I'll have to pay more attention to those dialogues :P
Any chances of solving these the same way Aya's name was?

Echo seems to be the only one who says naïve. Replaced it with naive

No... someone else also said it. I'll see if I can find it in my journal.

Found it. Ire. She says:
"Na?ve Brothers guard the Sisters and their Realms. They don't even understand how they're all connected."

I haven't finished the game, but those are the two occurrences of it I've seen so far.

Thanks a bunch sdgfsdgsgswg!
So was this some sort of codepoint thing? If I just search through the files in the "patch" for any codepoint outside the standard ANSI range and replace by the ANSI equivalent I could get all of these? (Sorry if the question is idiotic, I just need to get some sleep)

Thanks again!

It seems to be an issue with the font used with the game. The font lacks a proper character for the letters, and thus displays ?. Many translated games tend to have this occur unless the fonts or the system used to display them were modified and updated for he localization. This adds on development time, though, so sometimes it's skipped or circumvented through renaming or avoidance of words that are written with special characters.

I can tell you that Properties.vsf's strings properly contains the "ï"s in every instance of the word "naïve", at least. I've no idea about Aya's name, though. All instances of her name in the file just use a regular A. She's interestingly missing from a list of the Sisters' names, though that includes an "Undefined Girl." I just kind of assumed it might've been an Á, Ä, or À. Maybe even an Ã? No idea.

Sorry for reviving such an old topic, I just felt like adding a bit to it.
