He's easily the hardest of those three mini-bosses, mostly due to the infinitely respawning flipper babies. Some tips from my victory, keeping in mind that it was still pretty difficult:
- Make sure you have at least 100 green, red, and especially blue in your hearts. 100 silver won't help with the fight, but is a good idea for long-term game prospects...
- The arena is a triangle, with three holes for the worm at the tips.
- Listen when the worm moves. There will be a rumble and a roar, then a very distinct sound if he's picked up an enemy. This is important because, if he's grabbed something, it's time to run towards the hole he entered as fast as possible (to be there when he comes back out to chew). If he didn't grab anything, though, he's just going to shoot to another random hole, and you need to hide.
- If he finishes chewing when the same color is highlighted in the upper-right bar as the web you cast on the enemy, it deals double damage.
- It's easiest to run up and put the web on the enemy while he's chewing. Try to look at the color bar and time your casting based on how long it's been since the worm came out; this takes a lot of practice to get right.
- Webbing enemies before he even grabs them is possible but inadvisable. If he hits them after he's already grabbed another, it will be destroyed, wasting your color. It's also nearly impossible to sync with the color wheel this way (save of course on the final, innermost wheel, where the color doesn't change).
- Make sure you pump the maximum color into your web glyph. You can't go over; it will give back the extra.
- Sometimes the web glyph will just slide around his meal without sticking. I have no idea what causes this failure, or how to avoid it.
- Web targets the closest enemy to you. Look around before casting, if you have time, to make sure that's the one you intend to hit.
- As with all bosses, look at the innermost wheel color and refrain from using it during the first two wheels, tempting though it may be. Save it for when it's a 100% chance to crit.
All that's pretty "no duh" stuff, but it's the best I can offer. I'd say he's the toughest fight in the entire game.
On a side note, did anyone else have a problem with the color plants in the worm arena? They disappear when you get close, on my machine, and twist like there's something wrong with their perspective.
