So when exactly am I supposed to hit the organ keys during this minigame? I tried it right when the buddies' heads enter the numbered key area but they still "pop" - and in fact, they seen to pop/die no matter when I hit the keys! What's the secret to this? Thank you!

One more question - if I have three of them standing on the drums when the music stops and they won't do anything, what does that mean?
