It makes me very sad if someone speaks about Russian Occupation. In fact it means communistic occupation. Of course, communistic regime had made many bad things, but not only to Poland and other East-european countries: Russian people had suffered from this regime too, and I guess we suffered not less than East Europe.
Good point. "Soviet occupation" is much more accurate. However, in the USSR there was a fair amount of discrimination against non-russians in the party machine, and ethnic minorities and the populations of satellite states definitely suffered more. Or so say my history books.

i dont know for sure, but i imagine a lot of folk from poland probably feel pretty bitter towards germans, too.
Yeah. That's a real mess, and don't forget the issues from before the 1930s. But I agree with you that individuals aren't the same as their countries, and that historical conflicts shouldn't cause contemporary hate. Really wish it didn't
Too bad that around here (Sweden) the EU, which was supposed to stop that stuff, is generally seen as "Oh my God, help, cheap foreign labor is going to take my job".

Not russian - ukrainian one - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. If u enjoy "shooters" of course. But it's great. Also Cossaks (strategy) - also from Ukraine. Both games are in russian though, and as far as I know there are English versions too.
Hmm.. can't say there are many good games in our area.

Yay! You Are Empty - I love that game :)

I'm also a fan of the Hard Truck Apocalypse (aka. Ex Machina) series by Targem.

[Note: All games mentioned above are actually Ukrainian  ]

I want everybody to pay attention to the Precursors when they are localized. Gameplaywise it's a great combination of RPG, FPS and Space Simulator. It's very similar to Xenus and Xenus 2, but in a sci-fi setting. There are very few games like this in general therefore it's definitely worth attention IMHO.

Hey! I didn't realize The Precursors had been released! I've been interested in this one for years... Glad to hear the recommendation :)

The offer's still on. Or did you mean you just bought it for a higher price somewhere else?

The Precursors seems really interesting but considering Xenus 2 (or Whitegold) was released in 2008 and there's still not English version, I don't think we'll be playing it anytime soon :(

I feel obliged to point the following: Dusk-12 is a TERRIBLE GAME! My god, is that game awful. I thought it'd be decent since it's made by the same guy that made The Stalin Subway (which while nothing spectacular, had a certain allure, something about the setting). Red Veil sucked ass though. But yeah, Dusk-12 can rot in videogaming HELL.

Also, You Are Empty is AWESOME! When I saw that lamespot gave it 1.5 I wanted to burn down an orphanage. But seriously, this game kicks ass. The atmosphere and landscapes are really engaging, I also like the weapons a lot. I like to tell people I finished this game twice and coudln't bear more than 3 hours of Gears of War (it's true). They usually flip and call me crazy but what do they know, right? :D

BTW hydra9, I came across this interview: http://www.devisraad.com/YaE/ and when I clicked to contact the interviewer, this was the email: hydra9@devisraad.com <hydra9@devisraad.com>

Coincidence? I THINK NOT! How did you managed this? I thought I was the only one who loved this game. Heck, I even ordered the Polish version (with the soundtrack bonus CD): http://i49.tinypic.com/1zlyvf9.jpg the boxart is awesome, I wish I knew where to find more art of this game

Hey ZIGS! ::shakes hand:: Great to meet another YaE fanatic :D

Yeah, I love that game. I finished it twice, second time on 'hard' difficulty. I still have a slight idea of making a 'harder' mod that removes a lot of the unnecessary health drinks that litter the landscape.

My obsession led me to interview one of the developers :)

I've also played Dusk-12, and it is pretty terrible. I actually liked Red Veil more than the original Stalin Subway, however :)

If you're interested, I have some YaE character concepts and pics of unused models - and well, all kinds of stuff. I will upload it for you. Hang on a moment... Okay... Here you go. I also included all of the (excellent) trailers, which is why it's a 168MB download

P.S. My obsession with YaE is almost matched by my obsession with another much-maligned Eastern-European shooter, Operation: Matriarchy - which caused me to create this mod. You might think the game stinks, but if you're a hardcore FPS fan, I'd still recommend checking it out.

P.P.S. Also on that discount list - I'm a big fan of Hard Truck: Apocalypse - a very nice, cut-down version of Elite, in which you drive and upgrade massive gun-bearing trucks while trading/exploring/doing side missions/etc.

Thanks for that extra YaE stuff, I still wish there was a big image of the boxart without logos or other clutter.
Project: Matriarchy looks interesting and your patch sure seems to fix/improve a lot of stuff. Now, where to find a copy... :P

I'd like the same - but the other boxart (the stark red/black one).

GamersGate / Direct2Drive / Impulse / Amazon.de - But don't pay the big bucks for it, or you might end up hating it and wanting to kill me!

10€ huh? That's reasonable I guess but I was hoping to find it in the "alternative" stores, so I could try it first (I coudln't find it >_>). Anyway, I might go for it. You loved YaE, I loved YaE. You loved PM so logic would say I'll love it too

Edit: downloading it now, got it directly from Meridian4's website for 9€. Cheaper and I don't have to deal with shitty clients like impulse

If I don't like it, I'll skin you alive! Those 9€ were all my food budget for the rest of the month! I have to say, that mod of yours looks impressive, can't wait to try it

Edit 2: just came across this other fan-made patch, what do you know about this?

http://aho.6x.to/ (the link looks dodgy as hell but it's safe :))

Ok, just tried it, couldn't play much because my current windows installation is completely fucked and some games just crash for no apparent reason (others run fine, go figure). Unfortunately, PM isn't one of them, so I'll only be able to truly enjoy it when I format and reinstall Windows
