| Post subject: | sound stuttering |
hello i have a problem when i play pathologic. after 1min the sound stutters , then its off. i lowered the sound settings in conifg , then sound stutters after 1min30. then i tried to disable hardware sound in windows settings , no result. i figured out when i edit the Pathologic\data\config.ini and add to [Audio] StreamBufferSize = 500000 then i can hear the sound longer but after that value (i added 500000) it stutters again ( i saw that in the engine.log file ) i have a nvidia nforce 2 board with realtek soundchip on tried both newest sound drivers (realtek and nvidia) no result with realtek driver only works when sound disabled is there a way to disable the 3d in the sound ? oder how can i solve that problem. thank you greetings power55 sorry about my poor english , i hope you understand what i mean. btw. the game is a sort of ,which i long waited for and i dont want to play wihtout sound. |

I'm sorry to tell you this - but the game has very poor support for built-in audio-cards. So I guess your simplest solution would be getting an external one - I've seen cheap ones that cost like 5-10 dollars from Genius. Personally I'd recommend buying a Creative card - about 35 bucks worth. |

I have the same problem (using Realtek) with on board sound. If its true what The LxR says then they'll get what they deserve which is very little in the terms of profit considering how popular onboard sound is especially the Realtek chipset |

No response I presume the makers of this game think everyone has dedicated sound cards them. Lucky EA doesn't think this way isn't it |

Quote: No response I presume the makers of this game think everyone has dedicated sound cards them. Lucky EA doesn't think this way isn't it Actually, the game does work with built-in sound cards, but the quality depends on the overall system configuration a lot more, than if you were using an external one. AMD Athlon 3000 and Radeon 9800 PRO should be enough to cover the difference, but, it's certainly not the lowest config. Just the one I've tested myself. )Also, it's quite bold to compare EA and a company with ~20 employees. We're just starting, and it's not a bad start. ) What you can do to solve your problem: 0) Reinstall OpenAL to its newest version - http://developer.creative.com/articles/ ... =38&aid=46 1) Before running the game close all unnecessary applications, especially instant messengers (ICQ, AIM), antiviral software and programms that use the hard drive extensively. 2) Use low sound quality. 3) Use low lighting quality - you'll see little difference, but that will help speed up the game a lot. 4) Defragment your harddrive - this will generally help you speed up your system. And don't tell me I didn't give you propper support. )) Good luck with your problem, please post if one of the methods turns out to be particularly effective. |

Well that could just be it then I only have, AMD64 3000 ATI 9600 Pro 1GB DDR400 160GB HDD 7200 8MB cache With all the latest drivers only the sound stutters on this the game runs smooth |

Have you tried my step-by-step programme? ^__^ It is ordered by the likeliness of the method to help. It actually helped a lot on the Russian forums. Also, I don't remeber how it's done exactly, but you could setup software acceleration of sound in Realtec Settings. I'll come up with full instructions a bit later... |
