First of all it was quite difficult registering on the site thanks to my lack of Russian knowledge but now I'm finally here so cheers. ![]() Anyway I've never played this game and have first heard of it only today. Some of what I read sounded very intriguing so I went digging around for anything I could find (in English) on the premise of this game and spent the past few hours reading up on it more. What interests me is that reviewers have commented on the games deep storyline that isn't afraid to dip its toes into mature philosophical and psychological subjects, delivering a very thought provoking narrative. I'm a big fan of video games that go beyond mindless entertainment and "fun" pursuing something more relevant with a deeper meaning. Not many such games exist "yet" (hopefully this will change) So my question is, does Pathologic carry a storyline with a substance/meaning behind it, something for the brain to wrap itself around and really think about once all is said and done? Some examples of such games that I love are Planescape Torment, XenoGears and Metal Gear Solid 2 for their extremely in depth, thought provoking storylines that really transcend games, film and literature. BTW; I've heard many bad things about the English translation but am aware of a new, improved translation being made. If I do get the game I'd prefer to wait for the reworked translation so I can enjoy Pathologic better depending on when it comes out. So when is the new translation expected to be finished? Thanks. ![]() |

Welcome! Pathologic is indeed deep, and goes beyond holding back answers to make an interesting plot; there simply is no resolution to it and it keeps you brooding over its meaning after the ending credits. You don't know what's going on most of the time, but doesn't seem to have right answers as even very well-made and intellectually stimulating games like metal gear solid 2 indeed has. It is an contemplation over life itself, human relations, what goes on inside of man, and what things really are; the game reminds you that is not real, and that what is going on is more about what it means than how real it is, all the time. The game is filled with interesting questions and philosophical musings, and also it expands the idea of a game and game play to the point where you no longer think of the fences as being in the way of faster travel, but rather as a thematic part of the art itself. Many times you feel you have to forgive the game for being quite uninteresting action-wise, but at the same time fighting is really to be avoided at all costs; never have I felt so human and so fragile in a game before. Never have I walked the streets and felt like such a stranger, unwelcome and lost. The translation is pretty bad, and the fan translation project is on hold because lxr, one of the guys working on Tension, is busy with the English translation of that game. I also love planescape and mgs2 by the way. ![]() |
