Post subject: | Should I buy it in Russian or in English? |
The Subject already says everything, so I'll just write an explanation: I'm a foreigner, who's living in Russia for almost one year, so I can understand and speak some Russian. As I study here in the university, I have a nice grasp of technical jargons, as I'm a engineering-major, but when it comes to literature... a dictionary is not only useful, but essential. As everyone says that the actual translation is a bit broken, I really don't know if I should try to play it in Russian (and suffering a bit, but probably enjoying it more) or in English. I still have to find the game here in Belgorod, as I've never seen it in stores (although I bought Turgor/The Void today, the special edition with the soundtrack, but I'll play it only after my exams are over.), but probably I can manage that. Also, are there any differences between the Russian and the English version, e.g. extra features? Thanks for everything! |

I'd suggest getting the Russian version. Obviously, its text is perfect, as opposed to the less-than-perfect English translation. However, there is a huge amount of text in the game, so you'll have to be prepared for that. Fortunately, you have all the time in the world to read it, as the game's clock is paused during dialogue. Differences: * The Russian release has more text (an estimated 1200 pages versus the 750 in the English release). * There is some censorship in the English version - You cannot kill the teenage children, and the one teenager that can be killed as part of a mission has been turned into a midget ![]() |

By the way, there will be a small concert of our composer in Moscow on the 18-th of June. If you're interested in coming - please do. ![]() |

I'll look for it here. About the censorship, this strongly reminds me of Fallout, haha. And 1200 pages? Whoa, that's really a lot. I can see I'll have a big problem: one friend of mine wants desperately to play it, and I'll have to be his translator, but it'll be quite good, I guess. On the 18th? I'll see if I can make it, could you give me more info about it? I still have to find a hotel to stay, I'll travel on the 26th. |

Do yourself a favour and get the Russian version, it's infinitely superior. I have a feeling that the Devotress' scenario has been translated by someone whose native language is neither English nor Russian. It's not just 'a bit' broken. So grab a dictionary and have fun! It'll be great for your Russian. The writing in the game is not that complicated. |

I'm afraid there isn't much info about it and everything may be cancelled, so I guess don't sweat about it - if there are any fan meetings, I'll PM you. ![]() |

Well, no. I am pretty sure that the agency's translators were Russian. It is just that- the texts were put in Excel tables without any real context, only dialogue depth was marked by number of "arrows" in the left column - translating literature into your non-native language is a bad idea. Especially if you are used to translate documents that are in no sense "literature". Certainly, the agency was more suitable for translating contracts or software manuals. |

No irony, it was an honest mistake ![]() I thought they weren't Russian because they didn't understand the game, but now that Wynac said that they hadn't played the game in the first place, well, this explains everything. Anyway, I hope the translation project gets off the ground soon, so that everyone can appreciate Pathologic in all its glory. |
