Post subject:  Links to forums mentioning the Void

Just a small topic, in which I (and hopefully, everyone else) will throw links to forums and stuff discussing the Void. The difference between just throwing links to press and news in the other thread, is that in here we follow how different communities react, if any.

I'll start.
The Void at Penny Arcade forums.

Gamefaqs is a given I'm assuming, but it'll help even a little bit to have some more topics for the people that go to the forum when they see it pop up under the European release. I'm pouTHEstampede there.

Not a forum either, but impressions of Lewis Denby from Eurogamer.

Nice find.

He seems to understand the game well :)

So... review copies are being sent out? Excellent :D

I'm sure Eurogamer will give it an interesting and positive write-up, but based on Mr. Denby's impressions, I'm not sure about the score... a 7 out of 10?

[EDIT: Ah, okay, so Lewis will be reviewing it for Resolution Magazine, I guess.]

That was quick! And yes, I was spookily right about the score

A brilliant review, though - and The Void's first English-language one.

From all the reviews (including the German ones) I think this is the first one to really understand and capture the feeling of The Void. :)

I'm a bit worried about the slowdowns though, as the Russian version had none.

What I'm freaked out about is that no reviewing bastard outthere in no damn stupid review mentioned Fallout 3 "quit to windows" and other technical problems and for the Tension the Lewis guy made up (and he did, because there are none) some "slowdowns" and other spooky stuff for no valid reason. He might have complemented how a low budget Tension is made for a change instead of throwing void accusations.

You are right on that.

Bugs now a days should come as granted in games.

bratt_n: He obviously did experience slowdown on his system. Just as you experienced problems with Fallout 3. The trouble with PC gaming is the huge differences that still exist between systems, and how different hardware/software combinations may - or may not - cause problems for users.

(Btw, I mentioned the review and new release date on the RPS forums.)

Throdax, if I remember right from previous topics you played the original Russian version without the any of the patches, so I'd seriously doubt the new English version would have any more slowdowns or bugs. The reviewers system was probably not of "reviewer" quality.

I played the Russian version with the Russian DD patch. :)

Hi folks, Lewis here.

Wandered over and saw this discussion - signed up as I wanted to clarify a couple of things.

I tend to be pretty harsh on tech stuff. The Void's slowdown was by no means game-breaking for me, but it was noticeable, just occasionally. It's not loads, but it is more frequent with long sessions, I found. I'm sure plenty of people won't get it at all, and that it's totally dependent on what hardware's running which drivers etc. Such is the nature of PC gaming - though obviously I can only report on what I find.

It's regrettable that I didn't get to finish the whole game. If I hadn't have been an idiot with the savegames, I'd have certainly made the time to push on 'til the very end. I'm sure you all understand that, even when a game's a way away from release, we're working within fairly rigid time constraints when reviewing products. I did, however, feel I left the game at a point when my opinion wouldn't have changed, and the stuff I didn't get to cover would have been largely spoiler stuff that probably wouldn't have made it into the review anyway. From that 15-20 hours of play, I'm confident that I've been able to convey what playing the game was like - hopefully successfully.

Thanks for reading - and, to the Ice Pick guys, the very best of luck.
