Post subject:  DRM: Boxed vs Digital Download?

Summary: Do I need to have the disk in my drive to play the boxed version of The Void? I ask as I really hate swapping games in and out of my tower.

I am trying to decide whether to have a boxed copy shipped from amazon.co.uk or just go ahead and buy a digital version from GamersGate. Pricewise, they're within three dollars of each other (even after shipping). I prefer boxed copies, but do not want to have to deal with putting the disc in each time I play or any other draconian DRM measures.

Does anybody know what DRM the boxed version has, and what DRM the digital download version has? Thanks!

Well, I've never seen this version, but people at various English-speaking forums say that there is no DRM.

That's right. Definitely no DRM on the boxed version and (as far as I know) no DRM on the DD version... (though I'd like someone to confirm that)

Ah, thanks fellas. Looks like I'm going to be putting in that order with Amazon then. This game definitely deserves a physical presence in my living quarters. :)

The GamersGate version does have DRM. Whether it was applied mistakenly or not, I don't know.

Thanks for the clarification/correction! Using a serial number doesn't sound so bad - dependent on what this 'protector' thing really is.

Alternatively, the retail box has no DRM, and a printed manual (that smells quite good) and even a cover and a disc! :D

The boxed edition has taken pride of place in my games collection. I like to stare at it. I caress it gently. I ensure it's well fed and wants for nothing.

Took me two weeks to have it shipped from my friends in the UK, but it's definitely worth it to have the game occupying a physical presence in my material possessions.

Shame there wasnt a UK collector's edition - I'd pay a tidy amount for a bonus disc, some sketches and all the other wonderful junk you usually get.

Would also settle for a Nameless Sister avatar and or desktop wallpapery thing.

I'm guessing you already know about it, but just in case you don't, there's a link to a torrent of a DVD of nice bonus material in these forums, which includes four CDs worth of soundtrack awesomeness.
