What graphics card are you using? Are the drivers up to date?
Have you tried downloading / installing directX 9.0c or the Windows 7 compatibility mode for XP?
Finally, when does the error occur? When you try to launch the game, during game, when starting a new game... etc.?
Some more info would be appreciated.
PS: I don't know if it's really such a good idea mentioning you used to have a pirated copy. This is the developers' forum, after all. But at least you finally bought it now, supporting the devs hard work.
