I have just uninstalled The Void.

I fell in love with the game the first time i learned about it. Something very unique.

Unfortunetaly, my contact with actuall game was a dissapointment.

I start. I hear a lot of things, few of which i understand. Then it turns out tat the game is about collecting colourfull flowers to get enough of a resource to give to a sister. It takes a lot of time, and my gardens gives me so little. And those grafems can't get to work... . And locations are just gloomy caves...

I was at the enge of quiting, when the brothers have appeared, and have saved the game. I never ever seen such a twisted maniacs before. Utter madnes - they have scared me a lot and made me play more... ( by the way, they guy who have designed them should contact a doctor... for is own good :) )

But still i couldn't go past the games clumsy interface. It all have ended with fight with the first brother ( one with tho rapiers and no head)
Painting grafems, that was arleady pain with sister and trees, have made screaming with frustration here. The brother himself is not that difficult ( i have once taken allmost all his hp with one sleeper graphem), but it is almost imposible to paint graphem so that the program will recognise it.

If paint it so that it touches the brother, the colour will attack him rather than making graphem. If will not fit it whole on the screen, it will not recognise it. And worst of all, if i made slightest mistake, the coulor will just spill on the ground, essentialy wasted. Even before the fight what frustrated me, was that a simple click always result in a spilled colour - you have to drag a mouse at least a bit. And if you want to continue making graphems, you have to realease ctrl key after making one, than press it again, all together making a fight against a dumb bat a struggle.

The game has no respect for neither player's time nor comfort. You cannot name your save name, forcing you to carefuly study dates. You cannot save in rooms, nor during a fight - in the only places saving is actually needed - which in turn forces to hear brother's pre-fight speech over and over again ( after 20th attemt it is damn frustrating even with space). To be honest i don't really understand why there have to be so many areas where you keep your colors, one would be enough wit gradual transformation into "mana" saving time on micro-managing
The game creators havy copied Black&White idea, but is with most, copies, have made it badly ( sorry to say :( ). May i ask why there is no option for just clicking on an icon and having the sign drawed for me? right now even converstion is longer and much more frustrating than it should, and a fight is almost impossible to win even against a bat.


My first post have turned into rant... and in fact i just wanted to ask, if people of Ice-pick lodge are working on a new game. The two arleady made were fabolous ideas, unfortunetaly both were crippled by lack of attention toward essentials.
I really hope for a third game with all the great ideas and stories Ice-pick lodge is known for, but this time with both good graphics and comfortable and intuitive interface.

I'm sorry you had issues with The Void.

But you will be pleased to know that Ice-Pick Lodge are working on another game. It's called Cargo! and is scheduled for Q1 2011 - Check it out :)

Cargo looks really promising, i hope they will iron all issues out to the last this time. I will keep an eye on this one.

May i ask a question on the Void? It seems there is a big difference between ,polish version (Tension) and english one.
I have just watched some videos on youtube, and it seems,that polish version is much poorer. In polish version tutorial pretty much ends after leaving first sister's chamber. In first appearence in Void the sister shows you how to move (drawing a line to Uta's chamber) and thats all. If you enter garden, she only tells you, that chambers like that are called gardens - nothing about how to paint trees, and returning to her afterwards - as it was in youtube video. First visit in mine, she speaks about capturing balls - in english version I have seen she speaks about heart located there, and relation between graphems and hearts.

I must say that it would be A LOT less frustrating if got info like that, and not having to figure it out by myself. I have spend lots of time trying to find a ball of coulor ( they appear later). Also, in the video i have seen sister tells to fill her two hearts, and gives graphem of haste. No such thing happened in my version.

Do i have a poorer copy? Some kind of bug? I have legeal version (ofcourse), bought in some cheap re-realease ( with no extrass and short manual).

The game had been already released in Poland by the time the possibility of English realease started being discussed with the western partners. Our western publishers suggested that they pay extra money, and we improve and polish the game for some more before the release. The scenario was reworked (which lead to complete re-recording of the voice overs), some more eye-candy were made, new monsters added and mechanics somewhat changed. This new version was on the shelves on 29 May 2009 in German and Russian, and (for some reason I do not quite understand) only at the end of October in English.

Most probably, there was no consequent re-release of the game in Polish.

The game was intentionally designed to be hard and cause some sense of desperation. It just like their previous game, Pathologic: it's hard from beginning to end, and you always have the sensation you're not going to make it. In Pathologic, reaching day 12 (final day right?) actually gives an enormous senstion of relief. These guys develop difficult games to increase tension (ence the name).

However I agree with you, Tension was too hard. I only managed to end the game with cheats.

Heh, nice to hear that. I will try to download english version. I can't really blame you, you aren't the only ones who realease unfinished games. According to Youtube movies, combat is done right in english version.

Tension ( polish version) is not difficult. Its just glitchy, its core mechanic does not work. Hopefully english version will be playable.

Waiting for Cargo!.
