Hey guys,

this is my first post here in the forum and I hope that I can be helped with my problem.

As I already stated in the subject, when I install The Void and want to launch it, the game just crashes with a blue screen, which kills my whole system. Which makes me quite desperate, because I think of the Void as a great game and want to play it on my PC.

My system:

- Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2,66 Ghz
- ATI Radeon 4870 (Catalyst 10.9)
- Windows 7 32-bit
- 3GB Ram, 1 TB HDD,... (which shouldn't be the problem I guess anyway, but for the sake of completion)

My version of the game is the boxed German version, I didn't purchased it over Steam. I try to get this game running for some months by now, so I can mark the Catalyst 10.7 to 10.9 as checked, none is working. I did try the demo before, but this has been quite some time ago, which was working by the way. I'm currently loading it again to see if this still is the case. I do have the suspect that my ATI driver is the problem. The blue screen also says something with "DRIVER_IQRL" or something like this. But I have little intention to downgrade my drivers almost one year to play one game. So I hope that my suspect is wrong^^.

I know by the way that my copy of the game can't be the problem, because the game is working on my notebook. But as you can imagine, this is not the same as on a "proper" PC. And I'd like to enjoy this game on my PC and not on my notebook.

I hope that you can help me with my problem, I would appreciate it a lot. You can't imagine how much I'd want to play this great game on my PC! Please help me^^!

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling your drivers? Might just be a bad file.

Does it do this with any other games, or is the issue specific to The Void?

I'm pretty relieved that I really received an answer^^! Thank you, this is great, I honestly didn't expect that^^. My problem has already been ignored in another forum, that's why.

Not only this, I even made a completely fresh setup, because my old HDD was cracked. And I went from (I think) Catalyst 10.7 over 10.8 to 10.9, with no results.

No, this is a specific issue with The Void. I didn't even know how a blue screen of death looks like before :p.

I succeeded to download the demo by now and surprisingly, it is working just fine. I installed it and during the installation it uninstalled my PhysX (which was still installed from the normal The Void) instead of installing it btw. Had to download it from NVidia and reinstall it. Small hint for the devs, the installer is buggy^^. But after doing so, I was able to launch the demo and it was working just fine. When I then tried the normal game, it crashed again. So it's a issue with the release version only. Was the demo created before the release of the game?

I appreciate any hint that might help me with this.

Have you tried playing with the configuration? I use a Steam release, so I'm not sure about a disc edition, but there should be a Config.exe you can run to change the video settings. Try the recommended settings and see what happens.

I just tried it and pressed the autoconfig button, which set everything to minimal, because the game is somewhat unable to detect my video card. This is the case with my notebook as well, so I don't see the problem here btw. Anyway, after setting everything to minimal, I launched the game and run into a blue screen (once again...). But thanks again for the hint.

Small question about the constant crashing: Can I harm my PC or my data on it in a way when I always run into blue screens? Because I have to admit that I don't really feel good when shoting my system again and again^^.

If anyone has an idea, please write it. I'm thankfully for every hint I can get. Do the devs somtimes pass this forum btw.? Perhaps they know where the problem is.

Yeah, the devs are on here fairly often and might have some advice.
Frequent resets can be bad for your machine, but from my experience you'd have to set out with the goal of killing your machine to see any problems.
The only thing I can think to do now is Google what the blue screen's telling you, and seeing if anyone else out there has had a similar issue.

Sorry :/

Well I did do some research by now, but I only found out that this is an error that could be caused by almost everything :(. The only thing sure is, that there's a driver that is fooling me. But what got my attention is, that for the most people this only happened after about playing 5 minutes (Not "The Void", another game. I was unfortunately not able to find someone with this problem with "The Void".) or just using the PC for some minutes or hours. I haven't read anything from a crash when starting a specific application. But I could also have not searched well enough to find such cases.

I also wrote to ATI and asked them for support, but except about asking some questions, that are pointing into the stability of my PC, nothing happened yet. Though this might still be coming, I was just able to answer by now. Like here as well^^.

If one of the devs is reading this: Please, answer in this thread^^. And if you can only say: "I have no idea where the problem could be.", please do so. Because then I know that I can really bury this subject and have to play your great game on my notebook. Which still is better than nothing, but less than I hoped for. But well, nothing is perfect. But please note that the demo is working just fine and only the final game is crashing. Is there a big difference between the two? From the technical perspective I mean? Perhaps this helps us/me solving the problem.

P.S.: I just noticed that I'm somewhat unable to answer the ATI support, because all my mails return to me and it is said that they couldn't be delivered. Well, I guess this is it with the ATI support then, I'm not calling their expensive hotline. I made my experiences with this number...

Well, yeah, I have no idea what's wrong, but that's probably the reason I am a 3D artist and not a programmer :D .
Try looking for the game's logs in Documents/My Games/Void/Logfiles. If the game creates logs before everything dies, you'll find errors there, in game.log and exception.txt (exception.txt is created or updated each time the game crashes). Post their contents here (just for the game.log : no need to post it all, just the last page where the errors are is enough)
Maybe there's some weird protection mechanism on the game. In this case a noDVD will probably solve the problem for you ^_^.

Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately this won't get me any further. The game seems to crash even before creating logs... The only thing I can find from The Void in this folder are cache data. The logs of the demo are created fine in here, which doesn't surprise me though...

If you mean I should make an iso of this game and mount it to read, I guess this won't be working thanks to Securom. If you didn't (which I think is more likely^^): No, thanks, I won't start such things^^. I never did that before and sure won't start this for a game that is working on my notebook :p.

Well, I guess I can now officially bury this subject and will have to rely on my notebook. This sure is better than not being able to play this game, so I shouldn't be moaning that much. But it is annoying me after all^^.

If someone should have an idea when finding this thread, please answer here.

...Gee, all this is so my luck^^.
