I bought a PC gamer magazine yesterday and I got very thrilled when I saw that the demo version of Pathologic was on the DVD.

However, the game was very unimpressive.
The graphics, effects, animations, voice acting, models, sound effects, gameplay... It all feels like I'm playing a game made by a bunch of students in like, one year.

The models are so horrible! And the animations to.
Morrowind was a RPG released in 2001-2002 and it's graphics out classes pathologic's graphics big-time.

The combat mechanics are also seriously boring.
You have 2 different attacks, 2 animations for each weapon.
And also I killed a few civillians and they had loooong and badly animated death animations. I saw the same animation three times in a row.

Also isn't this a horror game?
Where is the gore? There is less blood than in Baldur's Gate here!

The dialouge was very confusing.
When you talk to characters in the game a randomly chosen and short voice file plays which has no connection to what the text says.
I got very confused.

The environments all look the same.
Every house seems to be a copy of a previous house.

The only good thing about this game is the music and the idea.

I'm going to cancel my preorder of this game.

I had high hopes.
Damn you icepick!

I had a lot of things to say. I wanted to explain that to understand the game it is not enough to look through the demo version, and I would have agreed that the graphics leaves much to be desired. I thought that I would be able to make clear that the graphics and the combat mechanics help to disclose the idea of the game (by atmosphere and impossibility to fight too much). Also I planned to concur that it is our first game, but anyway we succeeded to reach the main goals: to disclose the idea of the inevitable evil, which cannot be just shoot down and to stress the importance of the gamers' participation in the process as co-creators, not just users.

But after your last phrase I decided not to waste my time.

Just cancel your order and never contact us again.

I completly agree with what was said above.

I bought the game (German version) and am completely sucked in (the Bachelor, 9-th day) - the voiceovers are fantastic (What have you been talking about?), the graphics, though, quite old, but very integral and charming. And of course - the plot. It's fantastic. If you find the dialogues confusing - it must mean, that you are not even trying to understand them. And, I think that the solution with using an intro phrase is very smart - you just can't do voiceovers for ALL the texts in the game.

You must have not visited the infected houses - it scared the crap out of me... I don't think blood and disgust defines the term horror. There are many other ways to cause fear and damn, they're well used in Pathologic.

And I would like to add, that if you decide on whether the game is good or not based on how many animations a weapon has, than you should play 3D Mark 2006 - that would satisfy all your needs.

My mark for the game is 7.5 out of 10;

You are aware of the fact, that cursing someone always returns to you twice the size in most religions?

He-he. And so the bashing begins. ^_^

I agree with Ahako and Teizokurei.

The German version is different from the English one.:) It is not necessary to be a native English speaker to understand that English voice-over's quality is hardly above average. I like only Aglaja... perhaps, the Bechelor is good enough. Also, you need not to know German to understand that quality of German voice-over is between good and perfect. Well... I don't like the tradition to dub little boys with voices of adult men actors (yes, they change voices, of course, but it still can sound strange), but at least I hear that all voices fit characters pretty well and the intonations are likely to be natural.

The texts are not even worth discussing as the English texts obviously are incorect sometimes (I still don't like items descriptions) . But as for the original texts - yes, they were really good. Not every book is written this good. It is a great luck that at least German translation kept that quality.

Anyway - thanks.

#1 thing that kills the experience in my opinion is the horrible translation. The dialogue is a mess and is barely readible. The English version may as well be the German version, all things considered. I would totally play this game for the story and put up with the bad graphics and animations if I could UNDERSTAND the story in the first place.

2Hilamonsta: Which character are you playing with? If you have chosen the Bachelor - then try playing for the Haruspicus, since we had a lot more time to fine tune the translation of his scenario, while the Bachelor's wasn't checked as througly. Well, if you have trouble understanding the Haruspicus scenario - well, I guess we've overdone with the text difficulty. %) I believe I will be working on a user patch, correcting most of the dialogues in near future, so please stay tuned.
