*cough* subtitles?

If they exist I'll buy my copy now (my first copy anyway). I really don't mind subtitles at all.

There's a slight problem with the subtitles right now - the monologue texts are going too fast. So I don't recomend spending any excess money on Turgor.

But if you will - well, it's no problem, the subs are as good as yours. ;)

Nope. Everything is in English, just the monologues are unreadable. You'll only be able to read them afterwards in a log.

We don't have a precise date yet, but it'll be in 2009. Sorry about that.

Why are you so damn impatient? I knew about tension a year before it was released. The expectation only makes it more desirable, the more you wait the sweeter it's when you get it. ~_^

Expectations can get too high and leave you down and low. :wink:

Excuse me, do I look like an insurance office clerk to you? ))) All I can say that my personal experience of Tension was different from Pathologic, and different doesn't necessarily mean "low".

Low/high hasn't anything to do with a comparison to Pathologic, it has to do with expectations; I'm simply aware of my cumbersome habit of having them and then being disappointed. Like when I upgraded my computer for bioshock and realized I like system shock 2 better, or when I bought a 360 to play mass effect and realized that it wasn't an upgrade from knights of the old republic which I had already played and loved. Tension may be a great game, but the longer I wait tand the bigger my investment, he bigger the chances that I'll get disappointed.

You shouldn't be worried by the economical issues if were eager to make for a PC upgrade and own a 360 for such trivial releases (can't wait for Star Ocean 4, by the way). Bioshock was nice and not really that hardware demanding (played it smoothly on my old spec - athlon 3000, 1gb ram, geForce 7600gt), Mass Effect is a biiiiiiig regress virtually at every aspect compared to SW:KOTOR and I hope it fails commercially so we never see any sequels. I don't know the retail prices for games in your country, but I assure you that you won't need a hardware upgrade for Tension if you managed to run ME on your PC. Expectations... you can expect anything from Tension, however none of them will come true, because there are just no games like this one, there's really nothing to compare Tension with. All Russian reviewers were stuck with their articles about Tension, because they have have never seen anything like this before. So for whatever you expect, the real thing would be different. I don't know what else to add to conclude this...

I know what you mean about expectations and disappointment, Heteronymph. I was expecting/hoping for a lot from BioShock and I was also disappointed. The difference, though, is that BioShock tried to follow the design pattern set by earlier games (System Shock 1 & 2, Deus Ex) and failed (at least, in my opinion). However, Tension is a completely different type of game from Pathologic - Sure, they both have a strong focus on 'survival,' but the gameplay is totally different. Really, they're not even in the same genre (though 'genres' are pretty much useless when applied to these games :) ).

So if you're expecting 'Pathologic II,' you might be disappointed.

If, however, you're expecting an engaging, atmospheric experience of survival in an alien place... then I don't think you'll be disappointed at all :wink:

[EDIT: And I agree with bratt_n - There is nothing else like it.]

I upgraded the computer for other reasons as well, but the main reason was bioshock. It was only later on that I realized that computer games are over for me since it costs too much, which is why I bought a 360. Fallout 3 next month bitches! ^^

On the side note I think the combat system is better in mass effect than KOTOR. Also, I did expect pathologic 2 from tension, but now I know better.

Hehe, ironically, I had to upgrade my PC *twice* to play Pathologic :lol: First, my graphics card was incompatible. Then I didn't have enough memory :wink:

It was a good thing, though, as since then I've been able to play pretty much all the games I wanted. There's no way BioShock (or anything else recent) would've run on my old piece of crap system.

KOTOR is based on a modified D&D system (which originates from classics), Mass Effect is a pure FPS or I should rather say TPS (for X-box generation imbeciles).

If I were to compare Pathologic and Tension I' do as follows:

1. depth of concept

Pathologic A+++
Tension B- (it's not as narrative)

2. gameplay

Pathologic D (despite appearingly vast open space it's getting boring being an errand boy by day 2 or 4)
Tension * (it's just unique)

3. Survival

Pathologic A (the game offers many options to survive)
Tension C (it's really unbalanced yet, could be B or A with later patches)

4. Characters

Pathologic A+++ (no comment)
Tension B (the images often seem incomplete)

5. Replayability

Pathologic C (two or three runs is more than enough to do everything)
Tension A+ (much missed during the first run)

It is my personal judgment, not a commandment))))

Whoa whoa I forgot about this topic because I had some trouble with my laptop overheating but heck yes I'll take some subs. Mail to egglet@groovecats.co.uk and I'll have another go.

EDIT: I've just reactivated it on an updated installation of XP and it's giving me a Can't create game module: Can't load engine library error. Any idea how to fix?

Check the following:

* Install Ageia (NOT nVidia) PhysX - should be on disk. If not, find an ISO on torrents.
* Install the latest DirectX
* OGG Theora should be present. Usually - not a problem.

Well the Ageia from NVidia worked fine for me, in fact I couldn't install the version that came with the "DVD" :)

Ticked off the three checklists above and the game seems to just be hanging at a black screen whenever I try to start it and I've run out of activations for another full install. I think I'll buy it again.

To be honest I'm not sure. Because this is a new OS install the directories outside the original game dir and registry entries (if there were any) from the digital download version were lost. So I went through the error log and found what it was looking for, then put it back. It works fine now, but won't let me save for some reason. Is the save option a button on the main menu, because there is one that's permanently greyed out and I'm guessing that's what it is.

EDIT: I haven't reinstalled the game properly because I think I used up my last activation and don't want to risk getting locked out permanently.

EDITEDIT: And of course just as I type that I notice that you can only save on the map and I am a huge stupid.

Well, I'm happy it's working. Ugh, I hate that restrictive DRM, though :evil:
