Hi there,

I've been playing the German release of The Void since Friday but although I'm intrigued by the concept, the art, the characters and such, I'm having some serious problems grasping some parts of the gameplay due to a severe lack of explantion from both the game and manual in some parts. I had to restart once already because I just couldn't keep enough color at hand and now it seems like I have to restart again because I didn't complete the keepers quest (find out what they want you to do with the colors from the mines - whatever that means anyway) and now I've to fight one with not even the slightest idea how I can win that one (one hit kills me and I don't have nearly enough color anyway to fight back). Since my Russian isn't that good and using Altavista on the forums is like reading the comments on icanhascheezburger.com, I turn to you in hope for some help:

1) In the short tutorial vid about how to open up the color veins in the mines, the color pulsates behind the rock making it easy to spot. But sadly this feature seems to be missing from the real game. One princess also tells me that I've to look for colored spots on the walls to find where the veins are hidden. Call me blind but I've tried and tried to see something in both initial mines with or without light and even turned up the Gamma to spot anything. With no success. My workaround was to save, go in, hit all the walls with color until I discovered a vein, reload and find it on first try because I knew where it was then. Even then I couldn't see something that clearly marked that spot. Not very much fun...

2) Although I learned a bit from the first try and managed to keep up more cycles (unlocked access to the fourth and fifth princess), I'm still very short on color most of the time. Even with a completely filled garden I don't seem to be capable of collecting nearly as much as the player in the longplay video (linked somewhere here on the forums) manages to have all the time and even right form the start. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the help!

Good day, Sicarius!

The game may be a bit too hard at some places, don't give up!

1) Do you have an ATI video card? If you do, try disabling antialiasing - there's an issue, that we found just after the release, that prevents mines from being visible... :(

2) Nope - the game was designed to make the player feel like he's going to die any moment. Also cycles 8-9 don't give any color, as you need to get it from the mines. Thordax posted some useful tips in the English section somewhere... The most useful one is - the more heart you have filled, the more color you will transaform and thus the less you'll have in your Memory. If you need to survive for a prolonged period of time, try filling just one heart while you're surviving. Thus you'll hold out longer until the next update.

Hope this was helpful and good luck!

1) Awesome (Well kind of) - that did indeed fix it and now I can finally see the pulsating veins. Thanks.

2) Beeing the author of the longplay I can give you some advices, but in mind that the longplay is from the Russian version, hence colour values from the hearts and max colour each heart gives you are different. Even so, I'll try to give some generic advice.

-You don't need to fill all the hearts at once (unless you are going into a fight), the more hearts are filled, the faster you'll "lose" colour.

-Give preference to bigger hearts. Small hearts are good if you need a boost of a specific colour, fast. You notice in the longplay videos I mostly keep only the big hearts filled (colour capacity above 40), but like I said, colour amounts have changed from the Russian version (as an example, the shell heart allows to store 50 lympha as opposed to the 25 lympha from the German version). Another difference from the Russian version is that we could keep the colour as nerva as long as we wanted (until it technically starts to evaporate) that would prolong your life expectancy, which again can't be done in the German version.

-Regarding gardens. Only revive a tree if you have enough to survive yourself and to fill or almost fill the tree to the maximum. Trees with small amounts of colour are useless. When planting a garden try to plan two cycles ahead, as in, try to have enough colour to only need the garden after two cycles.

-Avoid using gold for any action unless extremely necessary (like brother fights for example), and before you give colour to a sister fill the maximum amount of hearts with gold. That will save you a lot of colour in the long run.

If you need more advice give us specific problems (like the brother you are fighting) and we'll try to help you :)

Enjoy and good luck :D

Thanks for the tipps. I now reloaded a savegame in the 7th cycle and got me all the veins. Things are looking up for now :).

I also got a question. Near Uta's chamber is a mine with a heart on a pledge high above the ground. How do I reach it? There is no ramp that leads up there and if I try to climb up I get kicked out of the chamber. Do I need to use magnet? Is it even necessary to get all hearts to end the game?

You need all the hearts to finish the game, and you will definitely have less problems, should you collect all the hearts from the locations (though, there is another way to get the hearts;)). And - yes, your guess was absolutely correct, the heart on the ledges high above the actual level can be pulled down using "magnet"

Funny as i always thougt that that heart was a red hearing, i mean the ledges are almost the same as Ima's mine and the heart is in the same position and all.

:D

Also, don't panic - there are more then enough hearts in the Void. :)

Got a newbie question, too.
So in the progress of getting rid of the pangolin, the 2 mines - the ones of the nameless one and the girl above her - got new colours. I visited them but... I found one purpur mine in the chamber of the nameless girl and after emptying it, the ... colour chart ... showed that there is still purpur in the chamber and just can't find anything. No flowers, no mines, no nothing. At first I thought it's those drops floating in the air, but they all give azur it seems. Same for the mine chamber of the girl above the nameless one. Found one mine, but it says there are 3 different colours to be found in the chamber. And I just can't find anything else. Am I missing anything? I am a bit lost there. :( Help would be greatly appreciated.

If you only have found one vein yet, again:

AA has been disabled all the time; forgot to mention. Any other tips?
Just to clearify, it's the 2nd or third time I am looting the mines chambers. It's not the first time. When I got the quest to get the colours from the mines, I found all 3 in both chambers without problem.
But this time I just can't to find where the rest of the colour is... I don't even know if it's meant to be a mine holding it. It's in both cases like something between a third and a half of a colour vessel. Mines tend to give more than that, don't they?
Being short on colour most of the time I'd hate to leave the colour in those 2 chambers behind. :(

One of our Russian users already reported something very similar. And I'm afraid I have completely no idea where this bug comes from...
To be sure, you may want to check your mine with a console command
Code:
'show_physics 1
which enables physical envelopes display. All of the veins have envelopes associated, and that's what harpoons collide with when you try to open the veins. So it is easy to see if there are any veins on the walls this way.

There is one more bug, most oftenly encountered in Ava's mine. Those flying colour drops you can catch in some of the locations - they are limited in number. Sometimes world update puts too much colour in them to generate. In this case, first few times you visit the mine you can collect less colour than is contained in this location. Game just generates the maximum of drops possible. The rest of the resourses is "still in there", but doesn't really correspond to any lympha "object" you can collect.
Collect all you see. Then, if you leave this mine and immidiately come back there, you will find that there are MORE drops to collect. Even though you caught all of the drops before.

Woah, lag parade... Well, it's defenitely no vein I am missing. Checked the enitre chamber and no other orange grids to be found. On another note though, I do find more colour drops every time I enter the chamber. But they are giving blue. The map says nothing about blue being in this chamber, but more red. But I can't find any red.

Bear in mind that sometimes mine spots are very hard to find. I once found one on the floor of the mine, on a straith path of a very small size.

Also light drops sometimes tend to be hidden as hell.

But if Halfgild says it is a bug, not much I can do to counter that :(

I am sure it's no vein I am missing. I checked the entire chamber with the show_physics thingy and it's pretty impossible to miss veins with that.

Well, if it's really a bug, nothing much I can do, I guess. I just don't like leaving the chamber behind while the map still says there is colour to be found. :(
Thanks everyone for the help, anyways.

Oh and... Do light drops give different colours? Cause they are all giving blue so far.

yes, you have light drops for each colour (not all spawned at once) unless there is another bug.

Ack, forgot one question: Once activated, do the ... guardian/brother traps last forever?
And thanks for answering my questions.

The last until trigered by a guardian.

If that happens, you have to refill it again.
