Okay, here's the scan (ripped - poorly - out of someone's copy at work :) ). As you can see, Outcry and The Void each got a few inches in a sidebar in the 'gadgets' section. I think we've seen more finely-written reviews, but even so, this is the UK's biggest-selling paper - which is cool.

* Trivia * You can see more naked flesh in an average edition of News of the World than in an average play session of The Void!

Damn, that's awesome. :)
The Void in a mainstream paper and the biggest one too.

What's amazing is that they gave it a high score. The News of The World are kinda famous for being a really, really dumb tabloid paper. Nobody who actually wants to read real news would buy it.

I'm just writing the positive review off as a fluke because they like boobs. :P
Still, it's positive press, and a lot of people are going to see it, so that's a definite good thing.

What's more amazing is that they didn't mention the boobs at all :)

Even though the review says very little about what The Void is like, it will be enough to interest some readers who will then go online, read some more about it, and hopefully buy a copy.

Years ago, one of my old tutors asked me to review a re-released film for a website. It was a one-off and I slated it. The publisher got in touch with him about it (they weren't really happy, but they weren't pissed either). I just felt like a bit of a bastard, and now my name is attached to that forever. I'll never be a reviewer, but I kind of understand that there's a certain unspoken etiquette.

If, however, you have patience and you want to play something different then this is a perfect game to choose. It is just a shame that many people in the UK might not experience this title due to the lack of people who actually play PC games anymore.

I really liked the IncGamers review. Also, I believe it might be the highest score that Turgor/Tension/The Void has received!

On the other hand, their scores are quite weird to me. Random numbers are possibly involved somehow. Well, and not that I'm not overjoyed by the game being rated so high (8.9), but, honestly, I've got no clue just how is this number connected to the review. What I saw in the text of this review was an impression left by a good, artistic game, which is at the same time quite poorly made in some aspects. Certainly won't please everyone, and the review makes that clear. Then there is near-ten at the end. Huh?

Hello there. A random number was not involved in my review, I assure you!

The only issue I had with the game was the semi-forced backtracking, so that prevented a 9+. Personally, I value originality and artistic intent pretty highly when making a score judgement on a game (and this is where scores can be problematic, as different reviewers have different tastes) - enough to forgive minor problems like the donor glyph thing or the occasional framerate dip, which to be quite honest didn't prevent my enjoyment in any way. But are worth pointing out in a review, of course.

As you say, I made sure to be clear that not everybody would enjoy this. That in itself is no reason to dock points. Not everybody will enjoy it - but so what? I don't get much out of Rally/Driving games, but I appreciate that they can get a 9+ score.

People will know from reading the review whether they fancy taking the plunge on this or not. My 8.9 represents the fact that The Void is probably the most original game I have played this year, it looks gorgeous, has a tremendous narrative and a superb soundtrack. How could it not get at least an 8, given all that? :)

'He said Pathologic was an important game. That doesn't mean a fun game, nor even a good game. It seems this time the game is important, and good.' -from the forum linked above.

It seems Icepick games are. . . confusing  But important, at any rate!

Yes! I finally manage to post about a new review before Throdax!

It's a good one:

Good review :)

Although he could have bothered to name the "Palette" and the "Memory" instead of lumping it all as hearts.

Yeah, some of the details were wrong/muddled, but a nice 'A' rating from a very popular adventure gaming site.

Yargh, I'm a day later than you boys! :P I was all excited to see that it was reviewed and got an A while I checked the site to see what new adventure games I should look into. I don't always agree with the reviews on JA, but it's good to see they've got some sense about them.
