So my copy of The Void came in last week and having played and enjoyed the original Russian version quite a bit, I
was surprised to find how the new release offers a completely different challenge and experience. Right away the beginning
threw me for a loop and I was surprised how much more structured The Void is. There's good and bad there,
it makes it a stronger video game but I felt it detracted from the immersion and hostile nature of the world somewhat to
have a guiding hand leading you for the first ten or so days.
What really got me was the revamped system for converting Lympha to Nerva, and the whole color creation, spending, and gathering process.
I threw myself headlong into my first playthrough and got obliterated by day 11 because I did not adjust for the changes in these
systems, and not being able to temporarily store Nerva in my hearts veins or juggle color from my pallete back into my reserves
caused me to overspend and bleed myself dry very quickly. Also it threw me for a loop when my golems started out with color
charged in them, and it took many attempts before I got use to charging the attacks with the creation glyphs.
Still, not to be deterred I jumped into a second playthrough and with the new mechanics in mind just dominated the game. The changes
are different, sure, but they definitely streamline the whole experience and I had slaughtered many brothers and unlocked the first twenty hearts and
both hearts for every sister by the 19th cycle. I felt much less urgency in this version of the game, again making it more effective as a game,
but I still feel the experience suffered a bit for it.
I think my only real gripe is the player's ability to re-use trees. Ice Pick Lodge has shown a tendency towards forcing players to accept the
permanent nature of decisions, making us come to grip with irreversibility. That played huge into the russian version, forcing you to pace
yourself lest you burn too brightly and die early, but in The Void it seems far more forgiving. Again, great as a video game, but the mood suffers.
Finally I must say the translation work and voice acting were largely wonderful. My only complaints are that I felt certain sisters lacked
the proper tone or quality of voice I would have expected, and some of the brothers had odd effects (Mantid) thrown into their voices. Really that is
only personal taste though, and no fault of those involved.
Overall a beautiful game, and while I think I prefer the russian release for the mood and tone it provides, I'm very happy with The Void and
the chance to experience it in English after watching and waiting for so long - Thanks again to everyone involved.

You are hardcore. I got all hearts and killed most brother around the 28th cycle, which seemed well balanced for me. I haven't played the original, but I think the difficulty in The Void was well done. It was challenging, but if I planned ahead, I could manage.

I guess I agree with that, simply because I never used trees more than once. I just didn't need it.

I'm now playing english version and coparing it to the russian Voice of Color and original Turgor. Well it's allmost funny how every new release fixes the things taht were bad, and ruins things that were good. I'm talking about voice acting in general. When the Vovice of Color was released in Russia there was a lot of rant about the Nameless Sister's voice-overs, which were ones of the finest in the original Turgor, well I find her english voice most interesting over all versions. Instead the Ava's and Oles voices are horrible. Ava speaks like a lolita-style spoiled brat, when she should sound like a middle-aged expirienced seductress, in fact she actually looks and acts like one. Ole's voice acting is even worse, it looks like that poor cute girl with a charming voice became a hardcore smoker while she was waiting for english release, honestly that was gross. The Brothers' voices are prety impressing, I'd say, but poor Mantid doesn't have that charisma he had in russian release, but it's not that bad, he's still interesting.

I like the battle voices of the Brothers a lot. Along with what they say :)

If I have time this weekend, I'll upload a MP3 of it if no one else does it first.
